Grace Church of Harmony January 2012 Sunday School Classes
Our classes for this 1st/2nd quarter of 2012 include:
The Gathering, led by Pastor Eric Rodes (Gym) and encouraging folks to get to know each other better. Each class is divided into time to fellowship and have a snack, a few songs, prayer for each other, and a study. The class will also seek out opportunities to express kindness and love to folks in need in the Church Congregation and plan out-of-church fellowship activities as well.
“Building Your Marriage to Last”; Family Life - HomeBuilders Couples Series edited by Dennis and Barbara Rainey. Psalm 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” I plan for us to sit in a circle with no more than 6 or 8 couples in each circle. Depending on the overall size of the class I will lead the discussion in one circle and Barbara G. will lead the discussion in the second circle (if it is necessary). There is some home work required. Each participant will have a workbook and is to “make a date” for the weekly HomeBuilders’ Project with their spouse. This will take about 45 to 60 minutes each week at home. I will ask participants to donate $7.00 each for the workbooks. “When a man and woman are married, they stand before witnesses and proclaim their commitment to a lifetime of love. They recite a sacred vow “to have and to hold … from this day forward … to love, honor, and cherish … for better or worse … for richer, or poorer… in sickness and in health … as long as we both shall live.” It’s a happy day, perhaps the happiest in their lives. And yet, once the honeymoon ends, once emotions of courtship and engagement subside, many couples realize that falling in love and building a good marriage are two different things. Keeping those vows is much more difficult than they thought they would be. They have not prepared for the long haul. Couples that would not think of buying a car, investing money, or even going to the grocery store without some preparation, enter into marriage with no plan for how to make their relationship succeed. In this study you will discover the biblical plan and tools that God makes available to husbands and wives. The plan is reliable, and the tools never wear out; they are not man-made. May you find great hope and long-lasting joy in using them to build your marriage.” Dennis and Barbara Rainey "America's Christian Heritage - Past, Present, and Future" led by Jim Willoughby When you hear the Founding Fathers were deists, Thomas Jefferson intended there to be a wall of separation between Church and State, the nativity in the town square is unconstitutional, or that congressional mailings saying “Merry Christmas” are illegal, what do you think? Though you know it doesn’t sound right, you might not have the historical foundation to point out the error. This class will examine the historical foundations: the beliefs of the Founding Fathers, the history of the phase “separation of Church and State”, a brief survey of American Judicial cases pertaining to the Church which will hopefully help you defend America’s Christian foundation.
Worship, Watch and Warn: The Revelation of Jesus Christ, led by Laine Seely From Preface: The Book of Revelation is a fascinating look into the future that at times is somber and at other times is joyous. Our responses to the book are many, but we can summarize them in three words: Worship, Watch and Warn. Worship Christ as He is revealed in the book. Watch for His coming by serving Him. Warn the lost of God's impending judgement…That is what God intended. John even included a message to the reader in the opening verses of the book. He tells us that the person who reads the book and keeps those things written in it will be blessed (Rev 1:3).
